noir

we had a noirish week at the omni parker house in boston last month. the parker house is america's oldest continuously operating hotel. john kennedy proposed to jackie in the hotel restaurant, where ho chi min once worked as a baker and malcom x was a busboy (true!). in the 1800's it was the meeting place for a circle of intellectuals including emmerson and longfellow. eponymous "parker rolls" and boston cream pie originated in the restaurant as did the term "scrod." the hotel is considered to be haunted. we took these photos in and around the hotel, and in the kennedy and marliave restaurants nearby. i dropped the color saturation on the photos because that's the way the place feels; when you walk in you feel like you're in an old movie- nick and nora charles or agatha christie. captain humple stabbed miss rupert with a steak knife in the last hurrah lounge...

organic shirts.

pictures of some of the organic tees we made for whole foods market annapolis. pictures taken this spring in st martin.

i heart new york.

some t shirt pics taken above the russian tearoom.
my friend laura was once waiting for a table in the russian tea room when the then very old salvador dali and his notorious wife gala were dining.
laura was an interesting, chic woman. her style was sort of prep/punk, uptown/downtown. it worked equally well for the hamptons or in the east village; she had blond hair and an ever so slightly louche jean harowe sassy quality. when i ran into her she always had something fabulous to tell me: she was going helicopter skiing in alaska, or entering the witness protection program. she dated iggy pop.
anyway dali and gala invited her to sit with them and she did.
i'm afraid these days the tea room isn't the type of place where dali would want to dine- but then it was still great.

marliave

we spent 5 days in boston and found this cool place- founded in 1875 as a french restaurant, subsequently italian and now a chic foodie destination that has retained its vintage european air. five charming dining areas occupy three stories between bromfield st and boswell, a little cobble stoned rue just a half a block long. we ate here 3 times, in the glassed in dining room upstairs and outside in the garden. marliave marliave cheese
