ancient carnelian beads. antique african amber.

deb gave me a strand of ancient excavation beads which included these incredible fossilized sea urchins.  nomadic people in mali made them into beads 2000 years ago.  the carnelian beads are of the same age and region.

old pressed amber beads tina and i collected in the 70s when we were teenagers.  i bought the victorian coral just after the import ban, before the price went up- i could never afford it now.

hisaji hara, balthus

photos by japanese photographer hisaji hara.  meticulous, but subtly different, recreations of early balthus paintings.

these are magical for me since i've been loving the original balthus interiors of this period for over 30 years, and weirdly, i feel as familiar with their details as i do with the furnishings of my own childhood home.

this cool chair is a vintage postcard chrissie found at the sowa open market in boston.

bullfight

vestige of the colosseum.

costumed ballet dancers of death slowly butcher a rampaging animal that is trying to kill them.  it takes about 20 minutes to slay the bull.

i was hesitant to post this but i think the pictures tell it like it is.
